Spelling - Words with the "VCCV" Pattern
Words this week will have the "VCCV" or Vowel/Consonant/Consonant/Vowel pattern. The final test for this lesson will be on Friday, 1/27. Workbook pages & the cursive page OR challenge work will also be collected that day.
Reading
The reading skill that we will work on this week is the identification of character, setting & plot. Students will fill out story structure maps as they read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing to help them organize their thoughts and identify the main characters, setting & plot. We will also practice writing an extended response, which is a skill that will be assessed on the ISAT tests in March.
English- Expository Writing
Students will work in pairs to write and edit an essay that asks the question, "What Would You do if You had a Robot?" We will finish this unit with each student independently writing their own expository essay.
Social Studies - The Midwest
Social Studies - The Midwest
The Midwest Travel Poster project is due on Monday, 1/30. Students will then spend two days completing the Midwest region portion of his/her U.S. map. At the end of the week we will begin our study of the Native Americans of this region, The Ojibwa. Be sure to ask your child how the Ojibwa used the "talking stick" in their culture.
Science - The Human Body / How Does Your Body Think & Move?
The nervous system, skeletal system & muscular system will be our focus next week. Students will take an open note/book QUIZ on lesson 2 of chapter 4 on Thursday, 1/26.
We will continue our study of geometry with a look at line relationships, polygons, classifying triangles & quadrilaterals and circles. Students will be taking a QUIZ on lessons 1-4 of chapter 19 on Wednesday, 1/25. Look for the chapter 19 test to be scheduled the week of 1/30.
