Highlights for the Week of 4/9/12 in Mrs. Bell & Miss Johnston's Classroom
Spelling - Homophones
This week's spelling list will focus on Homophones. The final test on this lesson will be given on Friday, 4/13. The workbook pages OR challenge work will also be collected that day.
Reading - I Can Use Reading Strategies While Reading
We will continue using the novel, Charlotte's Web to practice and review our reading strategies. This week, students will begin independently filling in discussion sheets and having Book Club meetings during class. Homework assignments this week will include reading 3-4 chapters & filling in the Book Club discussion sheets. Although this may appear to be a lengthy assignment, please be aware that students will be given time in class (approximately one and one-half hours) per assignment. Students will be expected to manage their time wisely.
English- Verbs
The past tense with helping verbs, the special verb be, and contractions with 'not' is what we will focus on this week in English. Students will also be completing lesson reviews to help them review the lessons we have covered so far.

Our journey across the U.S. has brought us to our final region, The West. This week students will learn about the varied climate in this region as well as its resources.
Science - Magnets / Invention Convention
Students should continue working on their inventions, which are due on 4/10. They will also be presenting their inventions in class while giving their "note card speeches" on 4/11. The requirements for the speech were sent home on 4/3. Students will have a review this week covering chapter 15. The chapter 15 TEST is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, 4/12.
Mrs. Bell & Miss Johnston's Math Class - Fractions
We will continue our unit on fractions with a look at how to read & write mixed numbers
and comparing & ordering mixed numbers. The QUIZ scheduled on Thursday, 4/5 will now take place on Monday, 4/9, covering lessons 1-3 in chapter 15. The chapter 15 TEST is tentatively scheduled for Friday, 4/13. A review session will be held in class to help the students prepare.

April 12 - Prairieview Open House - 6:30-8:00 p.m.
April 25 - Early Dismissal (11:00)
We look forward to seeing all of you at the Prairieview Open House on Thursday, 4/12 from 6:30 to 8:00. The students have been working hard to create a "Spring-like" atmosphere in the Fourth grade wing. Be sure to ask your child to show you his/her "I Am" project, and all of the other work (including inventions) displayed in our room. Don't forget to stop at the book fair in the gym!
