Week of 5.20.19

Highlights for the Weeks of 5/20/2019
in Mrs. Bell's Classroom

Spelling - Roots
This week's spelling list contains words with the Greek/Latin roots of mega, ped, sub and meter.  We will study and apply the meanings of these roots. The final TEST is scheduled for Friday, 5/24. This is the last spelling lesson of the year.

Reading- Unit 2 - "Journeys" - A Poetic Journey
We will continue the novel study of Love that Dog. Students are having fun searching for figurative language in the novel and in the supplementary poems. I enjoy seeing their faces light up when they realize that the author has used a simile, metaphor or onomatopoeia to make the text more interesting.

English - Poetry

Students will write a concrete poem, a cinquain poem that includes the use of hyperbole and a creature alliteration poem this week. Poetry books will be completed the week of 5/27.

Social Studies - The West

The West map QUIZ will be on Monday, 5/20. We will continue our study of the West with a look at the climate and resources of the region. Look for the chapter 12 TEST to be scheduled the week of 5/27.

Mrs. Bell's Math Class - Unit 7 - Division & Decimals
We will continue to study a variety of strategies for division. A fraction division CHECKPOINT is scheduled for Wednesday, 5/22.

FYI...

5/27- Memorial Day - No School
6/5- Last Day of School

We really enjoyed the field trip to see the stage version of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.
Below are some photos of our adventure...

Thank you to Derek & his family for winning the Ice Cream Sundae party for our class in the PTO auction. The kids had a ball filling their bowls with sweet treats & watching the movie, Marmaduke!
