This week's spelling list will consist of homophones, which are words that sound the same, but are spelled differently & have different meanings. The final test for the week will be on Friday, 10/9. Google Classroom activities are also due by 7:00 that morning.
Reading - Courage Unit - "I Have a Dream" speech
Students will take a vocabulary QUIZ on the words from Happy Birthday Dr. King on Monday, 10/5. The resources for preparing for the quiz are found in Reading section of Google Classroom and include a Quizlet and their word work pages. Then, we will be digging into an excerpt from Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream Speech". Students will use their close reading skills in the whole group and with partners to interpret the message, language, vocabulary and perspective of the piece.
Below are some pictures of students working together to identify the elements of cause and effect in the Happy Birthday Dr. King text...
English - Sentences
We have finished the paragraph unit and have moved on to sentences. This week we will take a look at types of sentences: statements, questions, commands and exclamations. Students will independently complete a graded review on the types of sentences on Wednesday, 10/7. On Thursday, students will complete a small project related to sentence types. They will need a photo of themselves for this project. The photo will be cut and glued.
Students used "whisper readers" to proofread and edit paragraphs the week of 9/28. Below are some photos of students using their readers & removing their "cooties" from them!
