Highlights for the Week of 3/10/14
in Mrs. Bell 's Classroom
Spelling - Changing the Final "y" to "i"
The final test for this week's lesson will be on Friday, 3/14. Cursive & workbook pages OR challenge work will also be collected that day.
Reading - I Can Understand the Elements of Poetry & Use Figurative Language
The Reading Response Web project for Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing will be collected on Monday, 3/10. In reading this week, our target genre will be poetry as we focus on the different elements of poetry. This will include figurative language such as similes, metaphors, personification, and alliteration. We will begin writing our poetry books, which will consist of 9 poems, each of a different format. Students will be creating their poetry book using Google Docs. Work on the poetry book will be done in school, and at home.
English - Verbs
Verb tenses (past, present & future) will be our focus this week. We will also review spelling rules for the different verb tenses.
Social Studies - The Midwest Presentations
Students will complete their work on the Midwest slide presentations on Monday and Tuesday. Oral speeches are scheduled for Wednesday and Friday. The next region that we will travel to in Social Studies is the Southwest.
Science - Electricity
We will begin the electricity unit with a look at the requirements for a complete circuit. Students will have "hands on" experience working with batteries, light bulbs and wires to discover different ways to light a bulb.
Mrs. Bell's Math Class - Unit 7
We will finish Unit 7 this week with a look at Order of Operations (a favorite of mine!), and Equations with Multiple Operations. Students will take a QUIZ on lessons 5-7 on Tuesday, 3/11. The Unit 7 TEST is scheduled for Friday, 3/14. Fractions will be the next topic in math.
