Spell
ing - More VCCV WordsThis week's spelling lesson contains words with the VCCV (Vowel-Consonant-Vowel-Consonant) pattern. Cursive pages & Google Classroom activities are due on 2/5. The final test is also scheduled for that day.
Reading- Unit 2 - "Journeys"
We will continue our look at the story Grandfather's Journey by comparing the two main characters. Students will write a response paragraph that describes the characters' similarities and how those similarities help the story's narrator to understand his grandfather. We will finish the week with a close read of the lyrics from the song, "The River" by Garth Brooks.
English- Explanatory Writing
Students will write the rough drafts for their Hero Essays. Then they will learn about using precise language and the difference between informal and formal language in writing and apply those concepts as they revise and rewrite their rough drafts.
Science - "How do the Bodies of Animals Help Them Meet their Needs?"
Animal adaptations is the next topic that we will study in Science. We will begin with an investigation that takes a look at how the shape of a bird's beak determines the type of food it eats.
Then we will delve into other animal adaptations such as fur color and types of claws. An open note/book QUIZ on this topic (Chapter 3 / Lesson 1) is scheduled for Thursday, 2/4.
Mrs. Bell's Math Class - Unit 4 - Multiplying & Dividing Whole Numbers & Decimals
This unit begins with a look at using strategies to multiply larger numbers. The first two strategies are the doubling & halving and the half-ten facts.
